Body Procedures Information at PS Contouring McLean, VA

WHAT IS AB ETCHING?

A flat, lean stomach can be difficult to achieve, even with consistent exercise and a healthy, well-balanced diet. If you are tired of putting in the hours at the gym without achieving the results you desire, ab etching, also known as ab sculpting, may be a great option for you. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Alex Mesbahi offers ab etching at Mesbahi Plastic Surgery to those who wish to attain a defined six-pack. This surgical procedure utilizes innovative liposuction techniques to safely and effectively remove stubborn pockets of fat from the midsection of the body to enhance the definition of the abdominal muscles. If you would like to learn more about ab etching, call our office in McLean, VA, Washington, D.C., or Beverly Hills, CA today.

WHO IS A CANDIDATE FOR AB ETCHING?

During your initial consultation, Dr. Mesbahi will evaluate your body to decide if you are a good candidate for ab etching. To be a good candidate for ab etching surgery, you should be within a normal weight range with isolated pockets of fat in your stomach. You have a low body fat percentage (ideally under 20%) and also have tried to define your middle through a healthy, high-protein diet, regular exercise, and abdominal strength training. Due to genetics, hormones, or pregnancy, you might naturally be unable to attain washboard abs.

AB ETCHING TECHNIQUE

Dr. Mesbahi performs ab etching as an outpatient surgery in a licensed surgical facility with general anesthesia. Throughout the 1 – 2-hour procedure, Dr. Mesbahi will create one or more small incisions so he can insert a thin tube (cannula) to suction small pockets of fat. Dr. Mesbahi generally uses liposculpture methods to loosen and remove fat but might also use Power-Assisted Liposuction (PAL) to achieve a more dramatic etching. Dr. Mesbahi will etch the outline of the rectus muscle and the midline linea alba. To reveal a six-pack, he may also define the transverse inscriptions and horizontal lines. When the fat is removed and the stomach muscles are fully defined, Dr. Mesbahi will close the incisions using stitches.

AFTER YOUR PROCEDURE

Following the procedure, you will be fitted with a compression garment to reduce swelling and bruising, which should dissipate after a few weeks. You will feel mild pain, but you may be able to return to work in 5 – 7 days and get back to working out in three weeks. Dr. Mesbahi does his best to place the smallest incisions in your stomach's natural creases, which means the scars are hard to see when completely healed. Dr. Mesbahi or a member of our staff will go over scar care instructions that will help your incisions heal nicely.

AB ETCHING FAQS

Is ab etching painful?
Since general anesthesia is used during the procedure, patients do not feel any pain. Once your procedure is complete, you may experience swelling, bruising, and mild discomfort, but these symptoms are normal and will dissipate as you heal. These symptoms can also be eased with over-the-counter pain medication. If you notice any abnormal pain or lasting symptoms, be sure to call our office.

How long will my results last?
Ab etching can last many years as long as you maintain a healthy diet and exercise plan. Any sudden or excessive weight gain can negatively impact your results. If additional weight gain occurs, a second surgery may be performed to restore your outcomes. However, we suggest that you maintain a lifestyle that is sustainable long term for the best results.

Can I combine ab etching with other procedures?
Yes. Many of our patients incorporate other body sculpting procedures with their ab etching treatment. During your initial consultation, talk to Dr. Meshabi about all of your cosmetic goals so he can build a custom body sculpting plan that suits your needs. At Mesbahi Plastic Surgery, we offer a wide variety of lift procedures for the arms, buttocks, stomach, and thighs.

REVEAL YOUR SIX-PACK

No matter how much you work on your abs, you may not be able to attain washboard abs naturally. Abdominal sculpting at Mesbahi Plastic Surgery liposuctions the stubborn fat from your stomach and defines the muscle lines so that you will see a six-pack. If you've tried exercise and diet but are still struggling to have visible muscles, then schedule an appointment with Dr. Mesbahi at our office in McLean, VA, Washington, D.C., or Beverly Hills, CA to learn more about ab etching.

WHAT IS AFTER WEIGHT LOSS SURGERY?

Men and women who undergo significant weight loss are usually ecstatic, having achieved a life-transforming goal. Oftentimes, unfortunately, while their weight loss represents a huge accomplishment, in many cases, they will face new frustrations. The new challenge is usually the stretched-out skin left behind on the body. Significant weight loss commonly leaves individuals with skin that cannot shrink to their new shape. No matter where the sagging skin resides, surgical excision is usually the best solution to correct this issue. Seasoned plastic surgeon Dr. Alex Mesbahi offers after weight loss surgery to men and women who have lost 100 lbs or more. If you have recently lost a significant amount of weight and would like to eliminate excess skin, call Mesbahi Plastic Surgery in McLean, VA, Washington, D.C., or Beverly Hills, CA to set up a private consultation with Dr. Mesbahi.

CANDIDATES FOR AFTER WEIGHT LOSS SURGERY

The best candidates for after weight loss surgery are those who have loose skin due to massive weight loss or fluctuation. Generally, this challenge is noticed early on as the body begins to change shape. If you have hanging skin, surgery at Mesbahi Plastic Surgery can eliminate the deformity and secure the remaining tissue for a healthy, tighter appearance. It is important that patients be at a healthy, stable weight before having this procedure.

SURGICAL TECHNIQUE

After weight loss surgery is typically considered an invasive treatment. This procedure utilizes general anesthesia and can last anywhere from 3 – 7 hours, depending on the number of areas being addressed. In most cases, an overnight stay in the hospital is necessary. Fat removal is usually used during the procedure to remove pockets of fat, followed by the surgical removal of skin. After weight loss surgery does make longer incisions than other cosmetic procedures so scarring will be associated with this treatment. During this procedure, every attempt is made by Dr. Mesbahi to make incisions as inconspicuous as possible. In many cases, Dr. Mesbahi will create incisions in the natural folds of the body, but depending on the area being treated, this may not be an option.

AFTER YOUR PROCEDURE

When you are released from our care, it is important to take a few days to recover at home. Tubes may be inserted near the incision sites to help control drainage, and compression garments will be provided to help minimize swelling. On average, it takes about 2 – 4 weeks until you will feel good enough to resume low-impact activities, but considering the complexity of the surgery, it could take longer. Dr. Mesbahi finds that most of his patients have experienced optimal recovery after about six months. Our team will also provide you with tips on how to care for your incisions so that they heal nicely and aren't as noticeable.

AFTER WEIGHT LOSS SURGERY FAQS

Can I use insurance to pay for my after weight loss surgery?
Insurance companies, for the most part, won't cover the expenses associated with elective surgery. Although, coverage does vary and may cover you if loose skin is deemed a medical concern. If you are planning to use your insurance company, please let our office know during your consultation. We can give you the needed information and paperwork to submit to your insurance company.

What will be included in my after weight loss surgery?
Typical areas of treatment generally include the abdomen, buttocks, thighs, breasts, arms, and neck. In your consultation, Dr. Mesbahi will discuss your concerns and goals before completing an exam of your body. Once this is complete, he will give you his suggestions on what should be part of your surgery.

When should I get my after weight loss surgery?
When you have lost a significant amount of weight, loose skin will become visible, and it's usually around this time that you should schedule a consultation at Mesbahi Plastic Surgery. During your appointment, Dr. Mesbahi can talk to about what you should do to prepare for your after weight loss surgery and what areas should be part of your custom treatment plan. Before moving forward with surgery, you should be at or near a stable weight.

What will my recovery be like after surgery?
Your recovery will depend on how many areas you are addressing during after weight loss surgery. If you're getting several areas treated, it will take you longer to recover. In your initial consultation, Dr. Mesbahi will discuss what you should expect after surgery and what may help you feel more comfortable. Follow-up appointments at Mesbahi Plastic Surgery should be scheduled so Dr. Mesbahi can assess your progress.

A frustrating side effect when getting older or losing weight is the development of loose skin. At Mesbahi Plastic Surgery, we offer arm lift surgery (also known as brachioplasty) as an option for patients who cannot seem to tighten and tone the arm with exercise and diet. Loose skin from the elbow to the shoulder is very common, especially for women and men who are advancing in age or have lost a significant amount of weight. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Alex Mesbahi has performed countless arm lift surgeries to help patients achieve their ideal shape. If you would like to learn more about how a brachioplasty can change the appearance of your arms, call Mesbahi Plastic Surgery in McLean, VA, Washington, D.C., or Beverly Hills, CA today.

WHO IS A CANDIDATE FOR AN ARM LIFT?

An arm lift is a plastic surgery that uses innovative techniques to contour and excise excess skin. If you are tired of hiding your arms and would prefer them to appear taut and trim again, you are a good candidate for an arm lift. Ideal candidates are also in overall good health and at a stable weight. It's also important to have realistic expectations and to understand that scarring is a part of arm lift surgery.

ARM LIFT SURGERY

Typically, your upper arm lift surgery will take place in an outpatient setting, except in cases where several cosmetic surgeries are to be performed at the same time. An upper arm lift may be combined with other procedures (usually completed in an inpatient setting for monitoring), such as a mommy makeover, tummy tuck, or thigh lift — as long as Dr. Mesbahi considers it safe. An upper arm lift is usually done with the patient under general anesthesia and can take several hours to complete. The loose skin will be excised from the elbow all the way up to the armpit. The incision will be made to be as hidden as possible, but it will leave a visible scar. If liposuction is wanted to eliminate stubborn fat, this will be completed as well. Once the skin is pulled taut, it will be sutured together. You will have to care for the incisions by keeping them clean, bandaged, and supported with compression garments.

AFTER YOUR PROCEDURE

Recovery after an arm lift usually takes about two weeks. You use your arms for more than you think so patients should ease their way back to their usual routines. An appointment to remove sutures will be made around ten days following surgery. Compression garments must be kept on until you are released by Dr. Mesbahi. For at least one month, all exercise and strenuous activity must be avoided with the exception of frequent, short walks. If you notice excessive swelling, uncontrolled bleeding, fluid buildup (hematoma), signs of infection, numbness in the hands or arms, or unusual scarring, please contact Mesbahi Plastic Surgery as soon as possible. This is also why it's important to keep all follow-up appointments with Dr. Mesbahi so we can monitor your healing progress.

ARM LIFT FAQS

Can I combine an arm lift with other surgeries?
It's normal for arm lift patients to combine this surgery with another procedure. This is often known as an upper body lift and may combine liposuction, a breast lift, or tummy tuck. Arm lift surgery is also commonly done in an after weight loss surgery for those who have lost a significant amount of weight and need full body contouring. During your initial consultation with Dr. Mesbahi, other surgeries can be discussed so your custom treatment plan matches all your needs and goals.

Will there be scars?
An arm lift uses incisions in order to excise loose skin, which means there will be stitches and scarring. However, Dr. Mesbahi will make every effort to ensure that your incisions are small and placed in inconspicuous areas. Following your arm lift, topical ointments that help with healing will be suggested along with other tips for minimizing scarring. Dr. Mesbahi also suggests you limit UV exposure for at least one year to protect the incisions from any additional discoloration. In general, patients believe the overall benefits of a more toned arm are worth the scars created.

What results can I expect from an arm lift?
A surgical arm lift is used to address loose skin and fat. You should follow a healthy lifestyle that includes diet and exercise to avoid a significant change in your weight, which might undo your surgical results. Following your surgery, as soon as your arms are fully healed and Dr. Mesbahi has given permission, you should start strength training. This is a great way to improve the shape of your upper arms by strengthening the muscles.

Are there nonsurgical treatments to improve my arms?
Although there are a lot of great noninvasive skin tightening treatments, most will only give you mild improvements. To correct moderate to severe skin laxity, arm lift surgery is your best option. Along with eliminating excess skin, Dr. Mesbahi also uses liposuction on small pockets of fat and smoothes the remaining skin and tissue. If you are interested in nonsurgical options, Dr. Mesbahi can tell you about these in your consultation and then help you decide which is best for your goals.

WHAT IS BODY CONTOURING?

The phrase "body contouring" is one that is regularly used in the aesthetic industry to describe a collection of procedures that can be used to create a more defined figure. Women and men who have lost a significant amount of weight may desire to have a body contouring procedure at Mesbahi Plastic Surgery to minimize fat, tighten the skin, and sculpt the body. Body contouring can also be used for those who have found that diet and exercise are no longer providing the results they desire. Seasoned plastic surgeon Dr. Alex Mesbahi offers numerous body contouring choices, from tummy tucks and liposuction to fat transfers and nonsurgical skin tightening treatments. Dr. Mesbahi can build a custom treatment plan that suits your needs. Contact our office in McLean, VA, Washington, D.C., or Beverly Hills, CA to schedule your consultation.

WHO IS A CANDIDATE FOR BODY CONTOURING?

You could be an ideal candidate for body contouring if you have sagging skin, droopy body parts (like the buttocks or breasts), or stubborn fat that is not responsive to diet and exercise. The hips, flanks, neck, abdomen, and lower back are examples of areas where fat deposits can collect, causing unwanted bulges. Great candidates for this procedure are women and men who maintain a healthy weight and desire a leaner body contour.

BODY CONTOURING OPTIONS

During your initial visit, Dr. Mesbahi will create an aesthetic treatment plan that is unique to you. This plan can include both nonsurgical and surgical treatments. Surgeries, like liposuction, abdominoplasty, and breast lift or augmentation, typically require the use of general anesthesia. The goal during these procedures is to eliminate unsightly fat and loose skin, leaving a slimmer, tighter body contour. Incisions are typically made in areas that can be easily concealed by clothing. Nonsurgical procedures can typically be performed at Mesbahi Plastic Surgery without sedation. This commonly includes Ultherapy, laser skin tightening, and injectable fillers.

FAT TRANSFER TECHNIQUE

In addition to advanced surgeries and noninvasive treatments, Dr. Mesbahi offers fat transfers for body contouring. This is a minimally invasive procedure that uses liposuction to extract fat from one area of the body to another. During the procedure, Dr. Mesbahi will use a thin cannula to remove fat from the abdomen, buttocks, or thighs. Then, the fat will be purified and prepared for injection into the desired area. Once the purified fat is injected, Dr. Mesbahi will use various techniques to ensure the fat cells are placed evenly for smooth, natural-looking outcomes.

AFTER YOUR PROCEDURE

If you are having a surgical procedure, you will be sent home to rest and recover afterward. Nonsurgical procedures do not typically require a recovery period. It is not uncommon for patients to undergo many procedures at once on several areas of the body, which may require an overnight stay in the hospital. Body contouring is meant to reshape the body so whether you have chosen nonsurgical or surgical treatments, or some of each, you will notice slimmer, tighter body contours.

BODY CONTOURING FAQS

Will insurance pay for my body contouring surgery?
While most cosmetic surgeries are not typically covered by health insurance, there are cases where body contouring could be eligible for insurance coverage. When loose skin is the cause of medical conditions, like reoccurring infections, you might be able to apply for coverage from your insurance. Coverage varies based on your insurance carrier and individual policy, but if you would like to use your insurance, please let Dr. Mesbahi know during your consultation. A member of our team at Mesbahi Plastic Surgery will help you talk to your insurance for maximum coverage.

What will be part of my body contouring surgery?
The combination of procedures will be decided during your consultation with Dr. Mesbahi. Your body contouring might be done in two or more stages, depending on your general health and the number of areas being addressed. Typically, the grouping will be staged with a combination of either the upper body parts (abdomen, arms, breasts, face, neck) or the lower body (thighs, butt, knees, hips). This staging helps minimize the risk of complications, such as blood loss and infection. This also makes your recovery easier and faster.

Will I have scarring after my surgery?
Since incisions are required, a body contouring procedure will leave scars. Many patients discover that when the incisions have fully healed, the scarring is no longer a worry since the results are so impressive. An experienced plastic surgeon, like Dr. Mesbahi, makes an effort to minimize the appearance of scars by carefully making the incisions inconspicuously. Scar care management after surgery is also very important. Skin creams and ointments might be prescribed to speed your healing. Over time, your scars will lighten and blend into your natural skin.

How long will my body contouring results last?
If you take good care of yourself, the surgical results of body contouring will last for a long time. The best way to maintain your results is to stay at a healthy, stable weight. Dramatic changes in your weight or pregnancy after your body contouring surgery may affect your results. Your body will continue to age naturally so you will eventually see loose skin develop after many years. Talk to Dr. Mesbahi about recommendations that can help you sustain your results.

WHAT IS A BRAZILIAN BUTT LIFT?

A Brazilian butt lift (BBL) is a surgical procedure that uses a patient's own fat to enhance the size, shape, and projection of the buttocks. This body contouring surgery offers individuals a natural way to achieve a rounder and shapelier buttocks without having to use an implant. Weight loss, aging, and genetics can be the cause of flat, unshapely buttocks. Today, a rounder, more voluptuous rear end is considered desirable. A Brazilian butt lift adds volume to the buttocks to achieve the desired fullness. This process is accomplished by using a specialized fat grafting and transfer technique. First, liposuction is used to remove fat from one area of the body, then it's purified, and transferred to the buttocks. If you'd like to enhance the overall shape and appearance of your backside, call Mesbahi Plastic Surgery in McLean, VA, Washington, D.C., or Beverly Hills, CA to set up an appointment with board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Alex Mesbahi.

WHO IS A CANDIDATE FOR BBL?

The first step in determining if you are a good candidate for a Brazilian butt lift is to schedule a private consultation with Dr. Mesbahi at Mesbahi Plastic Surgery. Dr. Mesbahi will perform a full physical exam to determine if you have an adequate amount of fat on your body to extract for the transfer. If you have a lighter body weight or have limited fat to harvest, you may not be a candidate for this surgery. In addition, it is also important to have healthy skin laxity. If you have wrinkled or sagging skin, you may benefit better from a surgical butt lift. If you are at a good weight, have unwanted fat to remove, and prefer not to use an artificial device, such as an implant, this enhancement surgery can be an ideal choice for you.

BBL NONSURGERY

General anesthesia is used for a fat transfer surgery of this nature. BBL qualifies as an outpatient treatment and usually takes about 2 – 3 hours (this depends on the quantity of fat that is being extracted and transplanted). A form of liposuction will be the first step to extract fat from certain areas on the body, such as the hips, abdomen, lower back, and thighs. This fat extraction process is performed at the highest quality and safety. The garnered fat is protected from the open air since it is intricately purified in a closed and sterile centrifuge system. After the purification process, viable fat tissue is harvested and put into syringes. Next is the injection transfer where the healthy fat tissue is reinstated in layers, followed by a gentle massage to ensure the surface is smooth. This step is repeated numerous times until the desired result has been attained.

AFTER YOUR PROCEDURE

Following a Brazilian butt lift, you will be released home to heal. Remember, there are separate sections on the body that need recovery time — where the fat was removed and placed. In both areas, there will be some overall discomfort and swelling. It is important to not place extreme weight on the buttocks for around two weeks after surgery. After the swelling has gone away, stunning results will be evident, but in the majority of cases, the full outcome is seen in about 4 – 6 weeks. In addition, the areas where fat was extracted will appear leaner, which often complements your BBL.

BRAZILIAN BUTT LIFT FAQS

Should I get implants or a fat transfer?
If you want to improve the shape and size of your buttocks, you can choose between a Brazilian butt lift or traditional butt augmentation. A BBL uses a fat transfer to enhance the buttocks while a conventional butt augmentation uses silicone implants and tightening techniques to achieve the desired result. Dr. Mesbahi will talk to you about both methods and help you choose which one may be best for you. He will also assess your body to decide which areas would benefit from liposuction (usually the back, stomach, or thighs). If you have a low body fat percentage, you may not be a candidate for a Brazilian butt lift.

How long will my results last?
While a small amount of fat may be reabsorbed by your body after the transfer, the majority of the fat cells will stay in your buttocks for a long time. To preserve your results, you should maintain a steady weight because major weight fluctuation can compromise your outcomes. This is why Dr. Mesbahi highly recommends you be at or near a healthy weight before your Brazilian butt lift.

How can I recover faster after a BBL?
If you want to minimize your healing time following a Brazilian butt lift, Dr. Mesbahi or a member of our team will give you post-operative instructions and tips. You should avoid sitting on your buttocks for at least 14 days as the area heals. Dr. Mesbahi recommends you get a Boppy nursing or donut-shaped pillow, which allows you to sit down with pressure placed on your legs rather than your buttocks. Light stretching and short walks can improve your blood circulation and reduce inflammation. Dr. Mesbahi may also suggest a special post-surgical massage to speed your healing.

Will a Brazilian butt lift remove loose skin?
While it's called a Brazilian butt lift, this name is confusing since it isn't actually a traditional butt lift, which addresses loose and sagging skin from your butt. However, the new volume transferred to your butt during a BBL may fill out some loose skin. If you are concerned about moderate or severe loose skin in your buttocks, you may want a traditional butt lift (gluteoplasty) with your BBL. Dr. Mesbahi can discuss your options based on your goals and physical exam in your initial consultation.

SHAPE YOUR REAR

A BBL allows individuals a more natural way to attain the shape and figure they desire. With the world around us honed in on a round, healthy backside, the Brazilian butt lift has quickly become one of our specialties at Mesbahi Plastic Surgery. If you wish to have an enhanced shape to your buttocks and are seeking a natural method, we welcome you to call Mesbahi Plastic Surgery in McLean, VA, Washington, D.C., or Beverly Hills, CA to learn more. Butt augmentation is an aesthetic surgery that improves the appearance of your buttocks by enhancing your curves. REVIEWS

"Dr. Mesbahi and Staff Are Amazing!! - Dr. Mesbahi and his entire staff are amazing. Dr. Mesbahi did not cut any corners. He made my well being and my health his first priority. My post op results are amazing!! I was a little worried about scaring because I suffer from hyperpigmentation. Only weeks after surgery I can honestly say I can barely see the incisions. I was also afraid of pain from the surgery, but there was minimal. I’m not sure how Dr. Mesbahi did it but he did. I felt like I could get right back at it the next day. He and his staff are down to earth, kind, caring, and on top of their game. From the time I went in for my consult to post surgery I have been in good hands. You will not be disappointed!!"

WHO IS A CANDIDATE FOR BUTT AUGMENTATION?

Women and men all across the United States meet with Dr. Mesbahi to gain more information about butt augmentation. Ideal candidates meet the following criteria:

  • Are in good overall health

  • Have great skin elasticity

  • Wish for a more curvaceous or fuller backside

  • Have lost size due to major weight loss or age

  • Are not candidates for fat transfer procedures

BUTT AUGMENTATION WITH IMPLANTS

Mesbahi Plastic Surgery provides a variety of implant sizes and shapes to meet your expectations. Typically, we use solid, silicone elastomer implants as they provide the most natural appearance. All of this information will be discussed during your initial consultation with Dr. Mesbahi. During this time, he will be able to help you choose the implants that best complement your individual shape. On the day of your surgery, small incisions will be strategically created within the natural fold of the backside and your selected implants will be securely attached. The incisions will then be closed and bandaged. Butt augmentation with implants is usually performed under general anesthesia as an outpatient procedure, and therefore, does not require an overnight stay in the hospital.

BUTT AUGMENTATION WITH A LIFT

Butt augmentation with a lift uses excision and tightening techniques to alter the shape and projection of the buttocks instead of implants. Even though a lift can help you achieve a firmer form, it does not increase the size of the buttocks. A butt lift is considered an outpatient procedure that is performed under general anesthesia. To start, an incision is made under the natural crease of your buttocks and loose skin will be removed. The remaining tissue is tightened, and the muscles are then elevated to a higher position. Liposuction may also be incorporated to remove small pockets of fat. Once this process is complete, your incisions will be closed and you will be monitored for a short time and then released to go home. The surgery generally takes about two hours to complete.

AFTER YOUR PROCEDURE

After your procedure, it is not uncommon to feel minor pain and experience swelling and bruising for several days. Drains are often placed and will need to remain in place for a week to allow blood and fluid to empty properly for optimal healing. In most cases, normal activities can be resumed within 2 – 3 weeks, but strenuous exercise should be avoided for at least six weeks. Dr. Mesbahi is a highly skilled and experienced plastic surgeon so patients are often excited to find that scars are nearly invisible. Since the incisions are made within the folds of the buttocks, you can feel even more confident in your bikinis and shorts knowing that your scars aren't noticeable to the naked eye.

BUTT AUGMENTATION FAQS

Can I also get implants during a butt lift procedure?
Yes. Many of our patients decide to enhance their buttocks with both implants and a lift. If you are concerned about sagging skin, then a lift may be best, but if you wish to increase the size of your buttocks, then implants are ideal. If you'd like to address both sagging skin and volume, then a combination procedure can be performed. During your initial visit with Dr. Mesbahi, be sure to talk to him about all of your cosmetic goals so he can build a custom butt augmentation plan that suits your needs.

What is the difference between a butt augmentation with implants and a Brazilian butt lift?
Butt augmentation with implants uses silicone devices to increase volume while a Brazilian butt lift (BBL) uses a fat transfer to enhance your shape. Ideal candidates for a Brazilian butt lift have a sufficient amount of fat in their thighs, abdomen, or flanks for the transfer. If you do not have enough fat, butt augmentation with implants may be your best option.

Do butt implants last longer than a fat transfer?
During your consultation, the pros and cons of implants and a fat transfer will be explained by Dr. Mesbahi so you can decide which one is right, depending on your needs and goals. He will explain how you can maintain the outcomes of implants or a fat transfer so you can choose which option better fits your lifestyle.

Will weight gain affect my results?
Yes. Any amount of significant weight gain may negatively impact the appearance of your buttocks. Dr. Mesbahi suggests that you maintain a balanced diet and exercise routine to preserve the results of your butt augmentation.

LIPOSUCTION REVIEWS

"Very Natural, Great Results! - McLean, VA - I wanted to get a revision rhinoplasty to fix an initial rhinoplasty that I wasn't happy with. My bridge had been reduced too much compared to the tip, which still protruded too far from my face. I researched several doctors in my area before selecting Dr. Mesbahi. He has an incredible bedside manner, and I saw pictures of his work, so knew he was the best doctor for my surgery. I also asked him about liposuction under the chin, since that is another procedure I had always wanted done. He ended up performing both the revision rhinoplasty and neck liposuction all in one surgery, and I had very little bruising, and a very quick recovery time (about a week). It has now been a year since my surgery, and my results are so natural that no one has ever guessed that I had work done -- they just think I look great! I have had several follow-up visits with Dr. Mesbahi, and he and his staff are always so kind and helpful. I would definitely recommend them to anyone who is considering plastic surgery. I have also started going to him for Botox treatments, and I have enjoyed the results of this as well. Highly recommend!!"

WHO IS A CANDIDATE FOR LIPO?

Fat removal surgery is a great treatment for individuals who are at an ideal weight but have stubborn pockets of fat that cannot be lost with even the most healthy lifestyle. Women and men interested in liposuction should have healthy, tight skin because liposuction is not a treatment for loose skin. It is also important to know that liposuction is not a solution for weight loss. Women having liposuction should have childbearing behind them as this could compromise the results. During your initial consultation, Dr. Mesbahi will discuss realistic expectations.

TRADITIONAL LIPOSUCTION

Surgical liposuction is performed in an outpatient setting under general anesthesia. A punch-hole incision is placed in the skin and a cannula is inserted to help loosen the fat as it is being removed. Once the fatty deposits have been extracted, Dr. Mesbahi will close the small incision. Depending on the number of sections receiving treatment, your surgery could take several hours. After your procedure, you will be monitored for a short time and then released to go home.

VASER LIPO

VASER high-definition liposuction utilizes ultrasound-assisted energy to safely and effectively target fat cells. A huge advantage of VASER is that it offers three-dimensional results and enables Dr. Mesbahi to work in specific areas without harming the surrounding tissue. It is considered an outpatient procedure and is performed under general anesthesia. At the start of your procedure, a tumescent saline solution will be injected into the designated treatment area. Then, the handheld VASER device will be applied to transmit the ultrasound energy. This process will loosen the fat to enable a smooth extraction.

AFTER YOUR PROCEDURE

The recovery period after liposuction will look different for everyone as it is dependent on the number of treatment areas being addressed and the amount of fat that was removed. Most patients can expect 1 – 3 weeks of recovery. Prior to your release, our office will also provide you with post-operative instructions to follow at home. It's normal to see bruising and swelling for one or two weeks, and sutures are generally removed 7 – 10 days after surgery. What is most important after your procedure is to allow your body time to recover and rest. When you are ready to go back to work, you should do your best to minimize stress and strenuous activity. To increase your strength and stamina, stick to light workouts and go for walks as approved by Dr. Mesbahi. Keep in mind, you may see some changes after six weeks, but it takes around 6 – 10 months until your new body contour and shape is attained.

LIPOSUCTION FAQS

What about loose skin?
Surgical liposuction only corrects excess fat. For loose skin, Dr. Mesbahi may recommend combining liposuction with a surgical body lift. Lipo is often done along with skin tightening surgery, like a tummy tuck, arm lift, or thighplasty, to give you your best results.

Will I have scars?
Since liposuction is a surgical procedure, incisions will be made and sutured. This will leave scars; however, Dr. Mesbahi does his best to reduce their appearance. This starts with making thin incisions in the natural folds of your body or in less visible areas. After your surgery, Dr. Mesbahi or a member of our team will teach you how to care for your incisions so they heal flat and eventually fade.

How long will my results last?
Before liposuction, it is important to be prepared to maintain your results. Although liposuction reduces the number of fat cells in your body, you can still gain and lose weight. Dr. Mesbahi recommends that you be at or near a healthy weight before having liposuction. Afterward, it's best to remain within 5 – 10 pounds of your post-surgical weight. Pregnancy after liposuction will also affect your results; however, a second surgery can be done to refresh your appearance.

WHAT IS A LOWER BODY LIFT?

Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Alex Mesbahi is pleased to offer lower body lifts to his patients. This is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin and fat to lift and reshape certain sections of the body affected by weight loss or pregnancy. It specifically targets the mid and low body, including the buttocks, stomach, flanks, low back, and thighs. Depending on the amount of skin removed, a circumferential 360 incision may be performed, which permits the greatest amount of skin excision and lift. Contact Mesbahi Plastic Surgery in McLean, VA, Washington, D.C., or Beverly Hills, CA to schedule a consult. In many cases, a lower body lift surgery allows people who have lost an extreme amount of weight to complete their total transformation with a taut figure.

WHO IS A CANDIDATE FOR A LOWER BODY LIFT?

Ideal candidates for this surgery are usually people who have lost a sizeable amount of weight and are battling different challenges. These challenges may be loose, wrinkled skin on the upper thighs, hanging skin on the abdomen, and sagging tissue throughout the midsection of the body. For those who are considering this surgery, it's important to understand the procedure and to have realistic expectations, which can be talked about with Dr. Mesbahi during your consultation. First, scars are a result of this surgery due to the size of the incisions. Second, this procedure does require a lengthy recovery period versus many other cosmetic surgeries so it's essential to prepare in regard to work and family care. Lastly, it's necessary that you are at your healthy goal weight before undergoing lower body lift surgery.

LOWER BODY LIFT SURGERY

This procedure is completed with general anesthesia, and generally, patients will need to stay overnight in a medical facility. The surgery time can be lengthy, taking about 4 – 7 hours. Incisions are made along the midsection of the abdomen, in the thighs, or within the natural curves of the buttocks, depending on which areas are being treated. Incision placement is usually predetermined during your initial treatment planning session with Dr. Mesbahi. Once an incision is made, liposuction will be used to remove small pockets of fat and excess tissue is then trimmed and removed. The remaining skin will be pulled tight and secured with sutures. This process is repeated with each treatment area until all target locations are addressed. If you are treating multiple locations, Dr. Mesbahi may space out your surgeries to allow optimal healing in between procedures. Prior to your release, we will also place compression garments to help protect the incisions, minimize swelling, limit bruising, and catch excess bleeding.

AFTER YOUR PROCEDURE

A lower body lift is classified as a comprehensive surgery. It takes most patients about 2 – 4 weeks to get back to everyday activities, and in some patients, as long as six months before they can get back to more active movements, including exercise. Dr. Alex Mesbahi or a member of our team will discuss post-recovery instructions and information on wound care so that scars heal nicely. While the recovery may feel lengthy, the results are extraordinary, providing patients with a smoother, tighter body without the loose, hanging skin that holds them back from living a full life.

LOWER BODY LIFT FAQS

Will I have visible scarring?
Scarring is a part of lower body lift surgery. Several factors can contribute to how many scars you have and their visibility after a lower body lift. Dr. Mesbahi designs incisions so they're either easily concealed in less visible areas, like in natural skin folds, or where they will be covered by undergarments. Dr. Mesbahi or a member of our team will provide you with aftercare instructions on how to help your sutures heal properly so the scars are flat and eventually blend into your natural skin tone.

What can I expect during recovery?
After a lower body lift procedure, you might have moderate bruising and inflammation in and around the treatment areas. Appointments for follow-up exams will be scheduled so Dr. Mesbahi can track your healing. It is imperative that you contact our office if you notice any abnormal symptoms or have any questions.

When should I consider getting a lower body lift?
If you're thinking about getting a lower body lift, make a consultation with Dr. Mesbahi to learn more about the process and the right time for you to get one. You should be at or close to a stable, healthy weight because losing or gaining a significant amount of weight once you've had a lift may alter your results. Prior to surgery, Dr. Mesbahi will also complete a physical examination to make sure that you're healthy enough to undergo the procedure.

Will I have to stay overnight in the hospital?
Generally, Dr. Mesbahi requires his patients to spend a minimum of one night in a hospital or medical facility after surgery. This overnight stay is to ensure your safety and comfort so your health can be monitored and your pain and be controlled. Depending on how many areas are being addressed and how quickly you recover, Dr. Mesbahi might recommend you spend multiple nights. We work with several local hospitals that you can choose from for your recovery.

My post op results are amazing!! I was a little worried about scaring because I suffer from hyperpigmentation. Only weeks after surgery I can honestly say I can barely see the incisions. WHO IS A CANDIDATE FOR A MOMMY MAKEOVER?

The right candidates for a mommy makeover are women who have completed childbearing and nursing, and have worked to achieve a slimmer, tighter figure through a consistently healthy lifestyle with little result. For many women, surgery is needed to restore their pre-pregnancy shape. If you have completed childbearing and are displeased with the side effects remaining on your body, such as sagging breasts, loose abdominal skin, or pockets of fat in the lower back, a mommy makeover procedure could help you. The overall goal of Dr. Mesbahi is to help you regain your pre-pregnancy figure so you can feel beautiful and confident.

MOMMY MAKEOVER SURGERY

A mommy makeover is a body contouring surgery that is tailored by Dr. Mesbahi to meet your specific needs and goals. A mommy makeover most commonly incorporates a breast lift, tummy tuck, labiaplasty, and liposuction. Since this procedure uses multiple lift surgeries to contour the body, it can take about 3 – 7 hours to complete. In some cases, an overnight stay in a hospital is required. Patients can also choose from a variety of nonsurgical therapies to include in their custom treatment plan. We offer nonsurgical skin tightening, laser skin resurfacing, and laser vein removal.

AFTER YOUR PROCEDURE

After a recovery period in the hospital, you will be released to go home. Recovering from this surgery is generally a slow process. Moving around and walking straight will be difficult the first few days, and a thorough, at-home care protocol will be provided to help the incisions and sutures heal properly. Most patients find the healing process can take around six months. Even though the primary recovery could take months, the majority of women are able to get back to a somewhat normal routine within a couple of weeks. Exercise should be held off for about two months. In the end, this procedure at Mesbahi Plastic Surgery can be life-changing for women, creating a newfound love for their body.

MOMMY MAKEOVER FAQS

How do I decide what to include in my mommy makeover?
During your consultation with Dr. Mesbahi, he will take his time to understand your concerns and goals before performing a physical examination. Following this, he can make suggestions on what to include in your treatment plan. Most women want a breast surgery (augmentation and/or a lift) together with liposuction and a tummy tuck.

Will I have scars?
While a mommy makeover offers women a beautiful new shape, it does leave behind surgical scars. Dr. Mesbahi will make every effort possible to create clean incisions that are as small as possible. Most scars will be placed so they can be concealed with swimsuits and underwear. When reviewing your post-surgical instructions, Dr. Mesbahi or a member of our team will go over scar care so your stitches heal properly.

How long after childbirth should I wait to have a mommy makeover?
For the best results, you should wait for at least three months after delivering your baby to schedule your mommy makeover. If you are breastfeeding, once you have finished, you should wait for 2 – 3 months to allow your breasts to settle.

What if I get pregnant again?
It's best to hold off on getting a mommy makeover until your family is complete so the surgical results are not compromised. In most cases, all treated areas of your body are at risk of changing if you get pregnant again. If you get pregnant after a mommy makeover, a second surgery may be performed to refresh your results.

RECLAIM YOUR FIGURE

If you recently had a baby and would like to revitalize your appearance, contact Mesbahi Plastic Surgery in McLean, VA, Washington, D.C., or Beverly Hills, CA to see if a mommy makeover is right for you. Sagging breasts, excess skin, and other cosmetic irregularities can be corrected with this body contouring procedure. During your consultation, Dr. Mesbahi will discuss your concerns and create a custom treatment plan to restore each area.

WHAT IS A THIGH LIFT?

However, in some cases, people who reach their ideal weight may need surgical intervention to complete their final body transformation. This is why seasoned plastic surgeon Dr. Alex Mesbahi is excited to offer thigh lifts to men and women who wish to enhance their lower body. A thigh lift or thighplasty trims away excess skin on the outer or inner thighs to produce a tighter, more contoured look. This surgery has risen in popularity because it enables men and women who are struggling with sagging skin an opportunity to achieve natural-looking results.

WHO IS A CANDIDATE FOR A THIGH LIFT?

Thigh lift surgery is a skin removal and skin tightening procedure that corrects loose, hanging skin. It is considered a post-weight loss procedure and is commonly reserved for patients who have lost 100 pounds or more. It is also helpful for older adults who are concerned about sagging skin caused by natural aging, as well as with women whose figure changed due to pregnancy and childbirth. If you have wrinkly, loose, or hanging skin on your upper thighs (whether it's the outer or inner thighs or both), thigh lift surgery can be a big help.

THIGH LIFT SURGERY

A thigh lift is an outpatient procedure that is performed with general anesthesia. To start your procedure, Dr. Mesbahi will create an incision around the top of the leg in the natural fold where the thigh meets the torso. The incision often runs along the midsection of the thigh. This permits enough room to use liposuction (if needed) to remove stubborn pockets of fat and to trim away all excess skin in the top thigh area. The skin will be stretched upward so it is tight and safely secured with sutures. In certain patients, an additional incision may be made underneath the butt or in the outer thigh area based on the quantity of tissue being addressed. Thigh lift surgery at Mesbahi Plastic Surgery corrects the whole thigh area, leaving a shapelier, tighter, more contoured appearance.

AFTER YOUR PROCEDURE

Thighplasty takes around 2 – 3 hours to complete. Once the procedure is over, you will be monitored and then allowed to go home to begin your recovery. There may be bruising, discomfort, and swelling during the first few days of recovery. After this time, many patients are able to get up and slowly walk around, which is necessary for circulation and faster healing. The total recovery period typically lasts about 6 – 8 weeks. Wound care instructions given by Dr. Mesbahi will also help the surgical incision to heal well. Even though there will be some scarring, the new shape and contour of your thighs can help you boost your self-confidence and you can show off your legs with pride.

THIGH LIFT FAQS

Will a thigh lift remove cellulite or stretch marks?
A thigh lift is a great choice to achieve nicely contoured and slimmer legs. Since the procedure calls for tightening the skin and removing stubborn fat deposits, it also improves the visibility of cellulite and stretch marks on your legs. If you are interested in addressing cellulite or stretch marks, let Dr. Mesbahi know in your consultation so he can adjust your treatment plan to fit all of your goals.

How long will my results last?
After your surgery, if you follow a healthy lifestyle that includes regular exercise and a balanced diet, you should enjoy the results of your thigh lift for a long time. Dr. Mesbahi advises you to be at or near a stable weight prior to surgery so it is easy to keep your results. Pregnancy or significant weight changes after a thighplasty can compromise your appearance. In your consultation, Dr. Mesbahi will discuss what you can do to make your results last longer.

Can I combine a thigh lift with other surgeries?
Yes. You may consider combining a thigh lift with butt augmentation or a tummy tuck to enhance your lower body. Thighplasties are also a common part of a mommy makeover or after weight loss surgery. During your consultation, talk to Dr. Mesbahi about your wants and goals so he can develop a treatment plan that gives you the results you want.

What about a nonsurgical thigh lift?
Although there are nonsurgical treatments for skin tightening and fat reduction, these are best for mild improvements. A surgical thigh lift is the best way to address moderate to severe amounts of excess skin and stubborn pockets of fat on your legs. If you are considering nonsurgical options, ask Dr. Mesbahi to give you more information in your consultation. He will explain the benefits and drawbacks of nonsurgical and surgical thigh lift options, as well as his opinion on which would be best for your needs.

WHO IS A CANDIDATE FOR A TUMMY TUCK?

Tummy tuck surgery can be offered to both men and women. If you find yourself upset over loose skin in addition to excess fat in the lower abdomen, this surgical treatment can help create a tighter and slimmer figure. Dr. Mesbahi recommends you to be at a healthy weight before undergoing this treatment. Tummy tuck surgery is not a weight loss procedure — it addresses loose skin. Liposuction is generally implemented during surgery to remove fat. Women interested in abdominoplasty should be past childbearing so that the results are not compromised.

TUMMY TUCK SURGERY

Abdominoplasty is performed with general anesthesia. There are several methods to consider when this surgery is performed by Dr. Mesbahi, which is unique to the individual's current condition. To start, the incision shape is selected based on the amount of excess skin. Some individuals with an abundance of sagging skin may require an extended tummy tuck. This method places the incision along the lower abdomen from hip to hip, just above the pubic zone. Some individuals who are concerned with minimal skin wrinkling may be better candidates for a mini tummy tuck. These patients still benefit from tummy tuck surgery but will simply have a smaller scar. Regardless of the technique used, all abdominoplasty procedures at Mesbahi Plastic Surgery involve the excision of sagging skin and liposuction.

AFTER YOUR PROCEDURE

When your abdominoplasty is completed, you will be carefully examined and sent home wearing a compression garment to decrease swelling. Standing upright and walking will be challenging at first so you should take it easy for a couple of days. Standing becomes easier once the abdominal muscles adjust and the incision heals. You can generally resume normal activities within two weeks. Exercise can resume later, closer to the two-month mark or when you are cleared by Dr. Mesbahi. The abdominal area will feel tight and uncomfortable, but you will look and feel normal again once healed.

TUMMY TUCK FAQS

What type of tummy tuck should I get?
There are three main types of tummy tucks: full, mini, and extended. During your initial consultation, Dr. Mesbahi will ask about your needs and goals before examining your stomach. Then, he can better decide which tummy tuck will give you the best results. A full tummy tuck is better if you would like to correct loose skin in the lower and upper stomach while a mini abdominoplasty is better if you only have concerns under your belly button, such as a "pooch." The extended technique can address issues in the stomach, plus the hips and upper thighs.

What will my scars look like?
The incisions needed for your abdominoplasty will depend on which type you are getting. For all tummy tucks, Dr. Mesbahi makes the smallest incisions possible to limit scars. He also makes incisions in less visible areas (through the belly button or in the pubic region) so they may be easily hidden by underwear or a swimsuit. After your surgery, it's important to follow your scar care instructions so your sutures heal flat and eventually blend into your natural skin.

Can I get pregnant after a tummy tuck?
While you may get pregnant after a tummy tuck, it will alter your results. Dr. Mesbahi strongly encourages that you be done building your family before you get a tummy tuck. If you do get pregnant after your tummy tuck, another surgery may be done to refresh your stomach.

Can I get a tummy tuck with another surgery?
Yes. Many patients get a second body surgery with a tummy tuck to give them more dramatic results. At your initial consultation with Dr. Mesbahi, talk to him about all of your concerns so a comprehensive treatment plan may be developed that matches your aesthetic goals. You may combine a tummy tuck with a thigh lift for a lower body lift or other areas for custom body contouring. If you want to rejuvenate your body after pregnancy or losing a lot of weight, you may be a candidate for after weight loss surgery or a mommy makeover.

ATTAIN A TIGHTER TUMMY

Many factors can result in a stretched-out abdomen that leaves behind loose skin. We know it can be almost impossible to correct with diet and exercise alone, which is why a surgical intervention may be the best way to overcome this. If you are embarrassed by the loose skin in your abdominal region, no matter how minimal or severe, surgical body contouring by Dr. Mesbahi in McLean, VA, Washington, D.C., or Beverly Hills, CA can help you get the look you dream of.
